Paul FilenkoPaul Filenko, Member of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Nominating Committee

Paul Filenko was born in Kyiv, Ukraine and has lived in Pittsburgh for the majority of his life. Throughout his career he has contributed to Ukraine’s economy by leading innovative projects related to the mining, steel, and power industries.  Paul has also spearheaded a number of cultural initiatives showcasing Slavic music and culture throughout the United States. 

After receiving a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, where he focused his studies on Structural design, Paul has been involved in architectural, transportation, and mining industries. Subsequently, pursuing an MBA at Carnegie Mellon University, Tepper School of Business has led him to companies including General Electric and Emerson Process Management, where Paul contributed to business development and strategic planning efforts. Paul is thrilled to apply his managerial experience to support the invaluable work of the Ukrainian Community of Western Pennsylvania. 

Paul has considerable experience as a performing musician. Having studied classical guitar and piano at Duquesne University, he has been involved in a number of ethnic and classical projects. Highlight undertakings include working as an organist for seven years at a church, playing bass guitar and organizing performances as a member of Slavic fusion band “Surjik”, and teaching guitar to students.

In his free time Paul enjoys outdoor sports, playing music with friends, producing art, and spending time with his family.
