George Honchar, Member of the Board of Directors
George “Yurko” Honchar was born and raised in Carnegie, Pennsylvania. His four grandparents immigrated to the United States from the Ukrainian Lemko villages of Volya Petrova, Tokarnia, Kvaton, and Doliny during the first immigration. Thus, he has a great love for Lemko culture.
George graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received his Masters degree in Agronomy from Texas A & M University. He is the owner of PermaGreen Lawn Care.
George is a member of the Ukrainian Cultural Trust Choir, Secretary of the Ukrainian – American Citizens’ Club, and Vice President of the Ukrainian Technological Society. He is honored to be the cantor at St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in McKees Rocks and an assistant cantor at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Carnegie.
George is married to Angela (Greco) and feels that his greatest accomplishments are his children: Nicholas, Yurko, and Eryna. His 1989 and 1999 trips to Ukraine greatly intensified his love and pride for Ukraine and his thankfulness for America and the God given freedoms and boundless opportunities.
